About Safala Ekadashi
Safala Ekadashi is observed during the Krishna Paksha of the Pausha month. The word 'Safala' means 'to succeed' or 'to fructify,' making this day the ultimate opportunity for devotees to transform their stalled efforts into successful outcomes. According to the Brahmanda Purana, Lord Krishna explained the significance of this fast to King Yudhishthira, stating that even a thousand Ashvamedha Yagnas do not equal the merit of observing Safala Ekadashi. The sacred legend involves Lumpaka, the son of King Mahishmana. Due to his sinful ways, he was exiled to the forest. On the day of Safala Ekadashi, weakened by hunger and cold, he unknowingly fasted and offered fruits to Lord Vishnu at the base of a Banyan tree. This unintentional but sincere act purified his heart, and by the grace of Lord Vishnu, he regained his kingdom and transformed into a virtuous ruler. This story highlights that the grace of this Ekadashi can revive even the most hopeless situations.
