About Shravana Putrada Ekadashi

Shravana Putrada Ekadashi falls during the Shukla Paksha of the holy month of Shravana (Sawan). This is the second of the two Putrada Ekadashis in the Hindu calendar. As narrated in the Bhavishya Purana, Lord Krishna explained to King Yudhishthira that this fast is the ultimate blessing for couples desiring a child. The legend centers around King Mahijit of Mahishmati, a powerful but childless ruler. Despite his benevolent nature, he was deeply saddened by the absence of an heir. His subjects and sages, led by the enlightened Sage Lomasa, discovered that the King's childlessness was due to a small mistake in his previous life. Following the sage's advice, the King and his subjects observed the Shravana Putrada Ekadashi. The collective merit of this vrat granted the King a virtuous son, proving that sincere devotion can alter one's karmic destiny.
