About Utpanna Ekadashi
Utpanna Ekadashi occurs during the Krishna Paksha of the Margashirsha month. This is the day when the Ekadashi Tithi itself was personified as a Goddess (Shakti) to protect Lord Vishnu. According to the Bhavishya Purana, those who wish to start the yearly cycle of Ekadashi fasting should ideally begin from this day. The legend narrates that during an ancient battle between Lord Vishnu and the demon Murasura, the Lord grew tired and went to a cave in Badrikashrama to rest. As the demon approached to attack the sleeping Lord, a radiant Goddess emerged from Vishnu's body and destroyed the demon. Pleased with her power, Lord Vishnu named her 'Ekadashi' and granted her the boon that anyone who fasts on her day will be liberated from all sins and attain Vaikuntha. This day symbolizes the emergence of divine energy from within during times of crisis.
